ASHA Announces Partnership with US Equestrian in the New USEF Competition Lite Program

The American Saddlebred Horse Association (ASHA) is pleased to announce the partnership between the United States Equestrian Federation (US Equestrian) and ASHA to offer the new USEF Competition Lite category.

Any ASHA registered competition that has not been licensed with US Equestrian within the last year may apply to become a Competition Lite event. As part of the Competition Lite program, competitors with US Equestrian memberships and horse recordings will have the option to participate in the US Equestrian Horse of the Year program, receiving half the points normally accrued at a Regular US Equestrian competition. However, participants are not required to be US Equestrian members and there are many other benefits to competitors; judges and stewards looking to get officiating credit, and to the competitions.

“ASHA is excited to work with USEF to offer the Competition Lite program," said ASHA President Donna Pettry-Smith. "We hope that this program fulfills the interest of competition managers that seek to offer some of the benefits that USEF provides without the additional costs that, often times, our smaller competitions cannot spare. We appreciate the ongoing efforts of Lori Nelson to work with us to meet the needs of our organization and provide our members with more options to be included in USEF programs.”

The purpose of the Competition Lite program is to increase participation in equestrian sport by building a gateway mechanism for unrecognized competitions to become associated with US Equestrian. The program will also provide an avenue for individuals to progress towards becoming a licensed official and provide athletes additional opportunities to compete at USEF competitions. By providing the Competition Lite option, US Equestrian can further its mission to provide access to equestrian sport at all levels while ensuring fairness, safety, and enjoyment.
