Leg wraps, tails up, raincoats, and mud. Hearing any of these might provoke the thought, “The Lexington Experience.” On the other hand, Red Mile sunsets, long straightaways, Fennels Tack Shop, and 81 years of tradition might also give you the same thought.

As a parent, I love the work of the horse show photographers. Photos of my daughter from age 3 to current grace the walls of my home from top to bottom (yes, even in one of the bathrooms – don’t judge me!). When I look at them, I am filled with pride and great memories of those winning rides.

Frustration…we all feel it when things don’t go the way that we think they should, when we feel that our requests are not being met, when we fail to master a task. Frustration in any form is irritating and generally a bother, but what we do in the face of frustration is what defines our character.

I remember that often dreaded moment like it was yesterday; that was the day I aged out of being a junior exhibitor and knew I had finally hit the amateur ranks. It was back in November of 2015, at the American Royal, in the Junior Exhibitor 14-17 Five Gaited Championship with She’s My Justification.
